Bullying; the Spirit of our Time

I don’t know why bullying’s been in the media for the past few months; if it were because of a specific suicide, or a rash of suicides, I’m sure I would of heard of it. Instead the conversation has lacked context, as if it had sprung up ex-nihilo into the minds of journalists and AM radio hosts alike. There’s no recently-marketed study they all reference, and there’s no particular politician they grill.  It really does seem to be a Grass Roots sorta thing.

Which I take as Proof Positive that it was Astro Turfed.

I know that if I look into it hard enough I’ll find some sort of government-funded Interest Group that’s behind the whole thing.  The smart money’s on the GLBTers, but really, it’s anyones game.  A lot of people stand to profit from this.

But personally, I’m not so interested in uncovering corruption.  Corruption’s a given in this Terrible Time we live in.  Me?  I’m more interested in looking at its endemnic insanity.

Exhibit A: Casey Heynes (courtesy of Australia’s A Current Affair).

Trust the Aussies to be at least somewhat sensible with the Art of Fisticuffs; they use the phrase ‘A Hero to Many’ to describe the kid, and gleefully show the Beat Down in all of its glory.  But even in that far-off corner of the Commonwealth, they eventually bow down to the Officially Sanctioned Truth.

Towards the end of the interview:

Ben McCormack: “Casey acknowledges that the smaller boy could have been seriously hurt.  He was lucky to escape with just a grazed knee….

“Looking back on what you did, do you think you overreacted?”

Casey: “No.”

Good on yer’, mate!  But we’re not here to talk about you.  We’re talking about the Media and our sick society.

If you’ve seen that clip before, I’d put dollars-to-donuts that you saw it as an excert in an American broadcast, sandwiched in between a set of Wise and Accredited talking heads.  From all of these comes the same refrain:

“I don’t condone violence.”

Let me tell you something about Gun Control; it ain’t the wusses who are the biggest supporters.

The wusses are part of the problem, certainly – the Breeders and the Liberals, whining about how dangerous the blat-blats are, how scary a nine millimeter heater is – their votes are used to turn us all into victims, but that’s just their nature.  They’re born that way, needing a douche at both ends, unable to cease their complaints.  Quite frankly, they’re too weak and spineless to ever ban guns on their own initiative.  The only reason they’re successful is because of a powerful ally, an ally who isn’t just whining for the sake of whining, but truly is in Mortal Terror of the armed citizen…

I’m speaking, of course, about the cops.

Aside from the occasional amusing happenstance, cops have little to fear from criminals.  They’re better armed, better armoured, and – as one officer once said to me – “I’m in the biggest street gang in the world.” Gangbangers know the pecking order; don’t mess with the Top Dog, and he’ll leave you alone (mostly).  Next comes the criminal without any affiliation – the thief or drug dealer – they enagage in criminality under the gang’s auspices.  And as for you and me?

Go ask an ex-con what he thinks of Citizens, and listen to how he says it.  Next, go find an off duty cop and ask him about Civilians.  You’ll notice the same inflection on both.

Protip: behind closed doors the cops switch to Citizen as well.

We are the lowest caste, in a hierarchy of criminals; the cops are just the most powerful criminal organization of all.  They hold you in just as much contempt as the lowliest gangbanger, and – funnily enough – they’re just as jealous of the wealth earned by Honest People.

Gun Control is how they keep you dependent and scared.

The thought of a Man with a Gun terrifies them, just as much as it terrifies the burglar.  The day you stop being afraid, is the day they start to lose power…

“I don’t condone violence,” says the man, who willing supports a system of violent imprisonment for victimless crimes.  Perhaps he should say that to a woman who manages to fight off her rapist?

But no, this man has a better solution; counselling, talking things through, pro-socialization, indoctrination into the Diversity of Society.

Listen pal, let me tell you something about Bullies – they’re cowards.

Your standard bully comes from a broken home; single mother, alcoholism, personality disorders, what have you.  The kid’s been kicked around for all his life by folks who are bigger and tougher than him, or by a mother whose psychological abuse is more subtle than what he can dish out.  So what does he do?  What would any of us do?

He looks for a smaller dog to kick.

Don’t be that dog.

He’s looking for a smaller dog, and if that dog bites back – well, I guess that ain’t such a small dog, anymore, now is it?  Clock him in the face, kick him in the nuts, body slam him if you gotta – he’ll leave you alone, and get this – you’ll be doing him a favour.

The counsellors say Turn The Other Cheek.  The last dude that tried that might’ve made a point, but he got nailed to a tree for his troubles.  Someone should have told him about the Toad and the Scorpion.  The bully ain’t bullying because he’s a Mean Person – he’s doing it because it’s all that he knows, and because he can.  Let him get away with it, and he’ll just keep doing it…

…until the day when he’s eighteen years old, and the bullying doesn’t give him a slap on the wrist anymore.  This time, it gives him a prison sentence.

A good pop to the nose, on the other hand?  At the very least he’ll stop bothering you; and if everyone else joins in, he might just have to learn to Socialize with People.  Who knows, your gift of a bloody nose might just have saved his future…

Not that the Talking Heads will ever admit this.

The Powers That Be in this world have the mentality of a street gang; they cow us into silence, and ask us to take Pride in our Suffering.  Victims are lauded as heroes, and Forgiveness is praised as a virtue, in a way that the Man on the Tree never intended.  But what of the Men of True Grit?  The modern Beowulfs?  They are labelled as Dangerous; those that arm themselves are Frightening; and those who live without fear become Revolutionaries.

The modern world worships at the font of weakness, and offers succour to its greatest victims – a race to the bottom, then , for Failure!  Meanwhile it despises the Strong, the Capable, and the Successful.  It demands that you bend the knee to Equality; let us all be broken, let us all be scared, and let us all be Filthy!

Perversion is the God of our Times.  Choose the Nobility of Satan.

Now that…that was eye opening. Well said…and most definitely needed in our time!!!

But you see don’t you think when you fight that bully that he is gonna take revenge with more people next time on his side?

ED: Bullies go after targets because they’re vulnerable – because they can. If you win a fight with a bully, they’ll usually cry afterwards and claim they were misunderstood, they might even try and win your friendship. If you lose the fight, they’ll still leave you alone after tha. They’ll respect you as a dangerous target.

I mostly agree with Aurini. I don’t think the cops like the criminals more, but I do think in some strange sense, they respect them more. The reason for this is the police know the criminals can and will harm the police and the police officers’ family members up to and including murdering them. The more powerful the criminal is then the more feared and respected he is even by the police. I have some respect for the police officer’s job because someone has to do the dirty work of cleaning out the trash criminals, but I have no illusions about the police either. The police have a tendency to attract broken people who are often bullies or break people and make them into bullies. Most cops are ok or good people, but a large minority are not. this horrible minority is larger than most people realize, maybe even more than I realize. I sympathize for police up to a degree because it is a thankless difficult job, but I wonder why anyone would want to become one or stay for long.

Ed: I am generalizing from one of the most stratified cities in Canada. Cops look at your income level, not your criminality when deciding to harass you here. In blue collar cities, I find that they’re far better a discerning the difference between hard-drinking, hard-fighting upstanding citizen, and lowlife scum.
