A fairly good explanation of why “the building is shifting” and the unwillingness of Western society to make the distinction between the culturally controlled and those who are not.
But I do have to say that you need to throw some structuralism into it, recognize the role of large-scale media and the broadening of the individual’s attention distribution at the cost of local cultures.
Also, the liberals do not defend all of it. They defend the idea of all of it, the freedom, and when the freedom is abused, they find blame that turns them into instant hypocrites. The moral majority is dying and not worth the mention.
Anyway, the confusion of the terms “tolerance” and “respect” also has something to do with this. Some light reading:
